Step By Step Guide To Ensuring Your Dishwasher Lasts Longer
It's often believed that the dishwasher cleans itself due to the nature of this appliance. But that's not the case. If you’ve been thinking this, you've been harsh on your dishwashers.
With time, the water minerals, overused and undissolved detergent, grease and food particles all accumulate in the interior walls and the filters of your dishwashers. You need to clean these timely. If not, your dishwashers won't do their job effectively, and release a very unpleasant smell that will make it even worse.
Here's a step-by-step guide to keeping your dishwashers clean.
Get Rid Of Any Remaining Food Particles After Each Cycle
The root cause of the unpleasant odor is the leftover food particles in your dishwashers. Hence, it's crucial to get rid of these after each cycle.
After each wash, you must remove the bottom-most rack and remove any particles before your next run. Clean your filters weekly to prevent the accumulation from hampering the performance of your dishwashers.
Wipe Off the Gasket Grime and Door after Each Cycle
To clean the dishwasher gasket, use an old soft toothbrush and gently remove any unpleasant crud from the rubber seal. Using a moist paper towel, wipe the surface clean.
If the interior of your dishwasher is stainless steel or has any stainless steel elements, avoid using a bleach-based cleanser.
You can wipe off the door handles, its interior surface, and dishwasher controls with a sponge or a microfiber cloth to remove any water splashes or residues that might have settled.
Avoid using anything wet on the control system. A damp sponge or a microfiber cloth will be ideal for cleaning.
Pull Out the Filter and Rinse It
Nothing else will be clean if the filter isn't. Pull out the bottom rack to get to the filter. It’s below the bottom spray arm. If you don't know how to remove it, look it up in the owner's manual or on the manufacturer's website.
To get rid of those bothersome spots on subsequent loading, unlock the filter and rinse it under hot running water. Scrub the plastic frame and mesh screen with a soft toothbrush to remove any food particles or grease lodged in the gaps. Give the filter a final rinse and then lock it back into its place.
Deep Clean Your Dishwasher Every Month
Despite the regular cleaning that you do daily, it's crucial to run your dishwashers through deep cleaning. There are several cleaning tablets available in the markets that have surfactants. These surfactants help dissolve any sticky food particle or stain that would otherwise have not been removed with routine cleaning.
